Jon Tester May Have Benefitted From Vote Process Interference in 2006

In a tight 2006 Montana Senate seat race, Jon Tester squeezed out a victory against incumbent Republican Senator Conrad Burns. In a recovered audio file reportedly of then Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer, he discusses his questionable tactics to assist in Tester’s election win.

The audio file is reportedly from the annual Trial Lawyers’ Convention in Philadelphia on July 14, 2008, and describes Schweitzer’s methods used to force poll watchers to abandon their posts with threats of arrest. Later in the recording, Schweitzer describes a directive to the Silver Bow County Clerk to delay vote count release to give Tester an advantage by resisting a vote recount.
