The (in)famous “Creepy Porn Lawyer” has made a name for himself as a sensationalist in the media but his latest client may be a bit much for the Democrats to digest.
Julie Swetnick has recently walked back on her claims about Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual misconduct, which probably adds to the Democrats unease with seriously considering her sworn testimony. While Michael Avenatti continues to double down on his threats regarding damning evidence, the Democrats have paid him little attention.
The Democrats have said that if Avenatti’s claims turn out to be unsubstantiated, he could do harm to their attempt to foil the nomination of Kavanaugh.
A senior Democratic aide told the Daily Beast,
“Mr. Avenatti has a tendency to sensationalize and make his various crusades more about himself than about getting at the truth.”
For all the popularity that Avenatti has garnered with his clients’ accusations against prominent Republicans, he’s been known to threaten media outlet when an inquiring eye is turned on his own less than stellar background.
“Let me be clear. If you and your colleagues do not stop with the hit pieces that are full of lies and defamatory statements, I will have no choice but to sue each of you and your publication for defamation,” Avenatti wrote in an email to TheDCNF.
If there is a lesson to be learned from Mr. Avenatti’s foray into stardom, it is that with good attention also comes bad.
